Tonight, he made true on his promise.
He had been hinting througout the year as to when he might propose, how he might propose...at one point, he even disclosed that he was making payments on my ring. Seeing as how we have a very open relationship, and how he has a very hard time keeping a secret from me, I knew that a proposal was eminent. In the last few weeks, he hinted strongly that he wanted to be engaged before we went to Ohio to visit my family for the holidays.
The last night before we were to head home for the holidays, I head home from a long day at work. I open the door, and immediately know that tonight is going to be different than our average night at home. Candles are lit everywhere in the living room, kitchen and dining room...no lights are on, save for the Christmas lights that decorated the Christmas tree and living room window sills. Music is playing, and he has set a table for two in the dining room, complete with wine and candles.
The Beef comes out from the kitchen, where he has been preparing dinner, and tells me to go put my bag in the bedroom and come out and join him. I do so, and come back out into the living room, which is as far as he will let me get.
In the middle of the living room of the first home we shared together, he dropped to his knee and took my hand in his. He tells me how much he loves me, and how he can't imagine spending his life without me. Just as he's about to ask me to be his wife, Sandy strolls up to him and licks him across the face, then walks away. Needless to say, our dog's apparent approval turned tears of happiness into laughter. The Beef asked me to be his wife, and I said yes.
After making a few excited phone calls to our parents and siblings, we sat down to a homecooked steak dinner, courtesy of Mike. After dinner, we met Brian for some celebratory ice cream, then The Beef and I drove around Fort Lauderdale, looking at Christmas lights in the rain.
Overall, it was a perfectly simple, perfectly perfect proposal for the two of us, and I couldn't be happier.
Our first photo as an engaged couple :)
As we're heading up to Ohio in less than 24 hours to see my family, we've actually decided to wait to tell most of my family until a family party on Saturday. I'm excited to see my family's reactions, particular my young cousins, who are already excited at the prospect of being bridesmaids in both their sisters and my weddings.
Once the excitement of getting engaged settles and we begin delving into serious wedding planning, I plan to post on plans we make, DIY projects I attempt to tackle, and the ups and downs of attempting to plan a budget wedding in extravagent South Florida.
Let's just say, I honestly cannot imagine that there is a happier girl in the world than me at the moment. I'll be spending the rest of my life with the man of my dreams - how can life be better than that? :)
